Twenty o eight

Hello folks. Wow! Can you believe the twenty o eight is just around the way? What a YEAR it has been for me. I'm sure some of you can attest to the same thing. My plans and approach for 2008 are already set in place, cocked and ready to fire! As another year approaches, so does another BD and another future of not knowing, yet I will create the tone for my destiny. I'm fully focused. I've made a few friends, lost a few (mostly those that didn't mean me any good in the first place) and I've grown even more as a person who can handle the obstacles as I refer to them as roadways. I'm fully armored.

As I embark upon a season of growing my business, there's nothing too overwhelming that will encircle my dwellings. Through the willingness of God, I am determined to succeed. My biggest goal is to be a strong significance of someone who needs a place of contentment. Whether it's through my words, song, or being, I want to bring a guiding light to someone's world of darkness. I want to inspire and encourage and feed a hungry soul with the meal of what I've attained through life's experiences. As I am blessed, I want to be a blessing. This is so much not a resolution, but a way of life for me. One has to give in order to 'achieve'.

I'm wishing for all of you that 2008 is your best year. I'm wishing you'll have all your successes piled high enough to spread around. I'm wishing you much peace and fulfillment.

Day after Christ's B'Day

Yesterday was the perfect holiday. Anytime there's good fam, friends and food around, it's all good baby. It's simply a blessing. As for gifts; I got a bundle of Barnes & Noble gift cards, a Bath n Body Works gift basket of the only fragrance I wear -- Moonlight Path, a gift card for Olive Garden, a set of candles, a couple pair of slippers, books, and a few dollar bills. :)

My godson (5 years-old) has been with me since last night and at this very moment, he's sitting in the family room singing out loud to his MP3 player. His dad brought over more of his Christmas toys which he's been begging for all day. So now he's in hog heaven.

As for me, I've got a few music projects (production) to get going and some to finish. I'm basically back to the grind. So I've got a few days to try and knock 'em out before I decide my plans for New Years.

And on the front of these painful knees -- OH MY GOSH! I got injections a few days ago, and -- but uhm, these days I'm having consistent pain. I guess with playing volleyball yesterday over at the neighbors didn't help. :) But it was good times!

Otherwise, ya lady is good. I'll holla!

Merry Christmas Eve

Hello blog readers. I just want to extend warm wishes and blessings from my family to yours. I am actually out and about now -- not last minute shopping but uhm -- in Barnes and Noble writing!

I stopped in to purchase books my Mom are getting me for Christmas. Yeay! she sends me with her credit card to buy what I love -- Books!!! Works for me! I'm always buying reference materials. I'm hungry like that! So I have a few (Mostly computer - studio - recording - software - etc.) stacked on my table while slightly browsing through them to decide which ones I want. I won't be here long though because I've got to get back home and make my lemon and coconut custard pies... remember the ones I made for Thanksgiving and whycome I have a CRAVING for my OWN homemade chicken 'n dumplings? (I aint gon' even lie -- I can make the heck out of this dish. I'm telling ya. And I don't use no canned biscuits baby -- I makes my dumplings.)

I was supposed to travel to St. Louis this week , but there was a change in plans. The weather across the country is not being friendly either.

Maybe for New Years -- we'll see!

Extensive Research

As with detoxification referring to elimination of alcohol and/or drugs, in my instance I'm referring to a natural body cleansing. I've done some research and found both pros and cons on different types of regimens. There are detox diets, 5 day cleaning plans, 2 week plans and the list goes on. I even found where some doctors don't think it is necessary and that it's more of 'the thing they're doing these days' thing. As for my conclusion, I think I may get more into understanding herbals. I had the lemon water regimen going for a while some time ago and found it very helpful, but I think I'm geared more toward continuing a healthier lifestyle of simply eating right and exercising.

Recently, I'd slacked off with the exercising due to the bad knee issues and mostly because of laziness or should I say 'contentment'. When I was traveling, it was a necessary thing for me even during the knee episodes. Every time I'd hit a certain city, I had to find a decent gym nearby. If you'd dig into my blog archives, you'd read about some of that stuff. When I came home – I gradually became too relaxed and with having all of what I need right here at home, there's honestly no other reason for such neglect. I had a great feeling when I completed my exercises. It became routine. I'm gradually building back into it. I did get more knee injections a few days ago. (Did I ever mention I hate those things? Like passionately!)

So I'm back on the road to a healthier me. It's not a hard road to take. I just have to prioritize it highly with the rest of my daily tasks.

So that's what's up with ya gurl.

DeTox

Okay, hello everyone. In the midst of this 'clutter control in my life', I'm also considering a full body detoxification/purification program. Probably something light at first. Still doing some research, but have found some interesting information. If anyone knows anything or can give any helpful advice or suggestions, I'd appreciate it. I'll be back in another blog with what I'm considering.

The Jump Off!

Hello everyone. I'm just getting in from the party tonight. (Remember the one I told ya about earlier?) Wow! What an incredible turnout! There were some party people up in there. I kept the mix Jazzy and Christmas until after they ate and then honey, they GOT down. The hostess made a few announcements every hour or so giving away $25 gift cards from various vendors. During her last announcement, she gave away $100 bills. I thought that was really nice for the employees. The gifts were given away from a draw of tickets which the employees received at the door upon arrival.

The oblong room was quite elegant with two rows of about 4 or 5 beautiful chandeliers across the ceiling. The lighting was perfectly dim creating perfect ambiance. I've actually done some other events in that same room before. The food OOOOH man, the hotel DID that! It was seasoned well. The menu included turkey, cornbread dressing, and green bean casserole to DIE FOR, candied yams, mashed potatoes, mixed greens salad, rolls, and pecan pie. The beverage was iced tea.

There was a professional photographer who had a really nice setup with props and gear. Of course she and her assistant and I did the network thing. I also participated in some test shots after they'd hooked everything up. They wanted to make sure their lighting was okay. So I got a couple great sample pictures as well. They were nice people.

I even got my dance on a few times. As I think back, when you have a good mixture of folks, black and white and young and old, having a good time as such, it's another one of those add 'em ups. I'm gon' get deep on y'all for a minute, but to look out at that group of people from the platform I was set up on; everything in that building at the time was genuine. People laughing, smiling, socializing and dancing – and what more perfect time than Christmas to share such joy.

I say that to say this, the supervisor of these people came in somewhere around mid-time the event and he HAD ON JEANS. This event was semi-formal attire. He was asked by the hostess to speak but he refused. He walked around a few, talk to a very few and left. This is the perfect example of a trifling leader heading off a squad of 400 plus people.

Overall, it was a wonderful evening. I was told by the head of the committee that they are definitely considering me for other various events, and possibly the Christmas gig next year.

Well that's it my good folks. My eyes are going together. I'm tired and My KNEES are CRYING out to me. Baby, I worked them over on that dance floor! I'll see the doc this week.

Add ‘em Up!

Good Sunday afternoon everyone. Yesterday I had a productive day with friends and family. My niece completed my braids (well they're kinda like twists) early, which was a good thing. She's getting better with timeliness and taking good care of her Aunt's tender-headedness. I'm proud of her! We all sat around and talked as some people eventually left and more came by. It was one of those days that help you realize how you should add up your blessings. Most refer to counting your blessings, but counting them one by one daily and adding those numbers makes you know just how rich you are. It was a good day!

Tonight I have a DJ gig which is a Christmas Party for a large Corporation. Actually I'm excited, as I always am when I do these functions. My only concern is that I think it is too long. Parties usually of this caliber are 3, maybe 4 hours long. This thing is 5 hours long. Hopefully they will have some type of program format to eat up the time. It is semi-formal attire and they will serve a full-course Christmas Dinner. Hmm Yum! More importantly, it is a blessing to have the opportunity to do this. (adding 'em up)

I Couldn’t Resist

If you've read the last two posts, then here is where I am. Tonight (early this morning), after I'd washed and conditioned my hair, I plaited it. After my hair dried I took the plaits apart and picked my hair out (well sort of). I was kinda digging my ladyafrolicious look. So I started posing and taking pictures. I still had to pat or pack it down for some type of control... My hair is soft. I'm still going to get the braids done tomorrow (today). Just thought I'd share the look with y'all. (The new profile picture!)

I’m Sore! But Relieved!

I managed to finish removing the braids from my hair last night. I waited till today to actually comb out this nappy thick stuff, of course with help of detangler. I have a pretty good length after cutting out most of the perm. I will probably go this one last time in getting the braids re-done, and then possibly began to wear my hair natural or maybe start some twists or locks. MAYBE!!! They both require so much maintenance, and I'm not sure if I'm up for that! I'll research my options.

It does feel good to see a chemical-free clean scalp with full thick healthy hair growing from the pores. I'm glad I made this step. I'm sore, but relieved. The battle begins tomorrow with my niece as she's doing my do. She hates when I'm scrunching and scrounging in the chair and I hate the fact that she complains the whole time about my tender-headedness. I have to admit she has gotten better in handling my hair.

I remember when my Mom used to run a hot comb through my hair (remember dem days?), and OHHHH MY GOSH I swear Saturday was my worst day of the week.

On the studio front, I've got several things going on and making new contacts on the daily. When I get that BIG ONE, we gon' all have a backyard bar-b-que…ya'll comin' right?!
